Integrating multiple internal systems and SAP using CPI for a Large IT company

About Client:

The client provides strategy, advisory services and digital lab facilities for rapid solution incubation, prototyping, and agile engineering to build and scale digital solutions in AI and analytics, cybersecurity, and IoT.

Business Scenario:

Before partnering with Maventic, the client relied on an architecture comprising nine internal non-SAP systems and an SAP ERP system, which utilised traditional OData services to sync data in a batch job.

Challenges:

Data exchange only happened at predetermined times during the day which resulted in a delay in:

  • Reporting across the exchange of timesheet information, sharing of business partner details, invoice creation, synchronization of GRN details, exchange of payment and collection information and sharing of PO details
  • Analytics as the most recent data may not get synced prior to viewing a report
  • Decision-making

Solution:

The client decided that the best course of action was to integrate its internal systems with SAP in a way that information exchange happens in real-time. After evaluating a few SAP CPI partners, they selected Maventic’s proposal to utilize SAP BTP (CPI, Cloud Connector, REST Services) and SAP ERP (ABAP) to make the data exchange real-time within the architecture.

Benefits:

With SAP integration using CPI, the client is now able to:

  • See all data changes made in SAP reflect real-time across its internal systems
  • Enable its non-SAP applications to request data from SAP on demand by consuming the APIs exposed by CPI and vice versa
  • Take faster business decisions with accurate reporting analytics owing to real-time exchange of information between systems
  • Minimize manual interventions by the scheduler in the event of a data sync failure
