A leading Indian industrial paint company enables communication exchange between its SAP and non-SAP systems using Amazon S3 and CPI with Maventic

About Client

The client is a subsidiary of an Osaka-based chemical company and one of the largest industrial paint companies in India. It develops and supplies decorative, automotive and industrial coatings.

Business Scenario

Before partnering with Maventic, the client had an SAP and a production forecast application (third-party system), wherein the latter was incapable of exposing REST APIs.

Challenges

Owing to the lack of REST API functionality, there was a requirement for direct engagement, as the forecast application could not access information from the SAP system when needed. As a result, the demand forecasting process was entirely manual, based on standalone applications and delayed decision-making.

Solution

The client decided that the best course of action was to integrate its SAP and forecast application using CPI. The challenges posed by this particular architecture needed a platform where files could be stored by SAP and, subsequently, easily read by the application.
After evaluating a few SAP CPI partners, they selected Maventic’s proposal to enable the production forecast application to consume flat files from the SAP system through an Amazon S3 bucket using CPI.
After carefully examining the challenges and the objective to solve, Maventic utilized SAP BTP (CPI, S3 Adapter, REST Services) and SAP ERP (ABAP) to perform this integration.

Benefits

By integrating its SAP and third-party systems using CPI, the client can now:

  • Perform demand forecasting and plan its production ahead of schedule.
  • Reduce shortage of stock and dead stock.
  • Deliver fresh stock to its dealers on time, thereby increasing the longevity of its products.
